Zur feierlichen Eröffnung von Interfinity, das sich 2026 den Exoplaneten und dem Kosmos widmet, präsentiert der weltbekannte Flötist Maurice Steger gemeinsam mit dem Barockorchester Il Pomo d’Oro ein Programm, das den Blick zurück auf die Ursprünge unserer Musik richtet – bevor das Festival in die Weiten des Alls aufbricht. Welche musikalischen Erfindungen und Ideen möchten wir mitnehmen? Was haben wir von den grossen Meistern geerbt?
Das Programm steht ganz im Zeichen des Kosmos, gesehen durch die Augen der Komponisten jener Zeit: eine Epoche, in der Wissenschaft und Kunst in enger Wechselwirkung standen. Zeitgleich wirkten Denker wie Kepler, Galilei und Brahe, während Komponisten wie Schütz, Monteverdi oder di Lasso die Himmelsbewegungen in Klang übersetzten. Diese Faszination für die Sterne spiegelt sich in Werken von Emilio de Cavalieri (Sinfonia dell’Intermedio – L’armonia delle sfere), Andrea Gabrieli, Giovanni Battista Fontana, Tarquinio Merula, Georg Friedrich Händel, Antonio Vivaldi und Georg Philipp Telemanns Die klingende Geographie.
Auch heute, über 300 Jahre später, stehen wir noch immer am Anfang, wenn es darum geht, die Geheimnisse des Universums zu verstehen – und fühlen uns den Komponisten jener Zeit verbunden in ihrem Staunen und Forschergeist.
Eröffnet wird der Abend vom berühmten Schweizer Astronauten Prof. Dr. Claude Nicollier, der in einer Festansprache exklusive Bilder und persönliche Eindrücke aus dem All teilt – und dabei in die Mysterien des Universums einführt und zugleich einen Bogen über das Festival und seine Reise durch das All spannt.

For the grand opening of Interfinity, which in 2026 will be dedicated to exoplanets and the cosmos, world-renowned flutist Maurice Steger and the baroque orchestra Il Pomo d’Oro will present a program that looks back at the origins of our music—before the festival sets off into the vastness of space. Which musical inventions and ideas would we like to take with us? What have we inherited from the great masters?
The program is entirely devoted to the cosmos as seen through the eyes of the composers of that era: a time when science and art were closely intertwined. Thinkers such as Kepler, Galileo, and Brahe were active at the same time, while composers such as Schütz, Monteverdi, and di Lasso translated the movements of the heavens into sound. This fascination with the stars is reflected in works by Emilio de Cavalieri (Sinfonia dell’Intermedio – L’armonia delle sfere), Andrea Gabrieli, Giovanni Battista Fontana, Tarquinio Merula, George Frideric Handel, Antonio Vivaldi, and Georg Philipp Telemann’s Die klingende Geographie (The Sounding Geography).
Even today, more than 300 years later, we are still in the early stages of understanding the secrets of the universe – and feel connected to the composers of that time in their wonder and spirit of discovery.
The evening will be opened by the famous Swiss astronaut Prof. Dr. Claude Nicollier, who will share exclusive images and personal impressions from space in a ceremonial address – introducing the mysteries of the universe and at the same time drawing a connection between the festival and its journey through space.
