In September and October, he traveled through five Asian countries, led three inspiring academies in Europe and Asia, and shared his passion through countless workshops and music education projects—from Malaysia to China and Taiwan, all the way to the remote Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan.
Among the unforgettable highlights of this journey were an exclusive concert in Thimphu, Bhutan; recitals in Republic of China; leading the prestigious Taiwan Recorder Festival; and nuanced duo performances with violinist Sebastian Bohren. A very special highlight was his return to Kuala Lumpur: in the iconic Twin Towers, Maurice Steger conducted the phenomenal Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and celebrated a symphonic, modern recorder concerto. Following a subsequent orchestral stopover for concerts with the wonderful chamber orchestra Violons du Roy in Canada, this two-month adventure has now come full circle.
Support for young talent was also a priority: Maurice Steger led his two academies with great dedication—the Baroque Academy as part of classicAscona, together with the Baroque orchestra il pomo d’oro, and the Junior Academy with the youngest talents. It was a time filled with intense cultural exchange with wonderful musicians from all over the world and a fantastic, diverse audience.
Starting in November, Maurice Steger will once again be spending more time in European concert halls.
