Maurice Steger is delighted: after an interruption of two years, the recorder festival days will once again take place as a live event. Another reason to rejoice: the music festival, steeped in tradition and known throughout Europe, is making its debut in the magnificent halls of the Regentenbau in Bad Kissingen!
As artistic director of the Recorder Festival, Maurice Steger has curated a top-class programme that is second to none: the weekend will be opened for the first time by a festive concert with the award-winning ensemble of the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin, followed by nine other inspiring, multifaceted and demanding musical performances. The opulent weekend will be flanked by a large music fair at which publishers, instrument makers and specialist dealers from all over the world will showcase their handmade instruments, sheet music and accessories, as well as a master class and traditional ensemble playing.

Greetings:
Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,
Dear festival visitors, dear music and recorder lovers!
It is a great pleasure for me to invite you to our wonderful festival all about the recorder and its music in Bad Kissingen for the first time this spring – we are proud and happy that we can now hold the 37th edition of the recorder festival live under the best conditions in the premises of the Regentenbau in the Franconian World Heritage Site after an interruption of two years.
I am not exaggerating when I promise you the very best acoustic conditions for our festival. The Rossini Hall, in which most of the concerts take place, allows us to experience the music in an extraordinary and filigree way; in the exhibition, it is much quieter and thus more concentrated because it is spread over several rooms.
There will be 10 festival concerts and it is my pleasure to present you with interesting and inspiring artists this year; there are many well-known names and some debuts that will make you sit up and take notice. “Old music in a new guise” continues to be the motto of our concerts, and I am personally looking forward to the new guise in many ways: the 2022 prize-winners’ concert will be presented in cooperation with the German Music Council – the recorder will be presented here in a branching duo.
I look forward to presenting some of the most interesting recorder players and ensembles, but also exhibitors who have not been able to share their instruments and new releases with you for so long, as well as performers from today, and I am excited to be able to experience the recorder festival days with you: the place where we all come together and celebrate, enjoy, exchange ideas and let ourselves be inspired by the incomparable atmosphere, sounds, beautiful instruments and valuable contacts.
A warm welcome!
Your Maurice Steger
Artistic Director
